Preparations That Will Keep You Safe And Comfortable While Driving Up A Steep Mountain
Posted on: 17 August 2017
If you live in a valley surrounded by tall mountains and have decided to drive your truck up one of the mountain peaks to go camping next month, prepare for the outing with the advice below. By doing so, you will remain comfortable and safe during your excursion and can enjoy the adventure without any major hindrances.
Have Your Vehicle Serviced And Pack A Box Of Supplies
If your truck hasn't been inspected or serviced by a mechanic recently, schedule an appointment with a mechanic. The installation of new tires and brakes or an oil change may be some standard procedures that a mechanic suggests you have performed to increase the chances that you remain safe while driving to the spot where you will be camping.
After your truck has been serviced, drive it around town to ensure that it is operating properly. Pack a box of supplies, including a roll of paper towels, glass cleaner, and a jug of coolant so that you can clean your truck's windshield if needed and fill the radiator with coolant if the truck's engine overheats.
Bring Along Emergency Materials
If one of your truck's tires is punctured while on the road or if you encounter inclement weather and veer off the road, it is important to have emergency flares to set up around your vehicle so that other drivers will be aware of your location and won't accidentally hit you or your vehicle. Place flares inside of a heavy duty container or box.
Write down a towing company's phone number, such as from V & A Towing , and obtain a map of the road that you will be traveling down. Place the phone number and map inside of a plastic sleeve. Bring along your cell phone and a CB radio. If you encounter a situation that requires a tow truck, you can immediately contact an emergency towing service and won't need to worry about being alongside the road for a long time.
Be Alert And Prepare Simple Snacks And Beverages
Pack all of the items that you are bringing along on the camping trip well in advance so that you are not forced to rush around your home the night before you are due to depart. Take the time to relax early in the evening and go to bed at a decent hour so that you will be alert and ready to hit the road shortly after you wake up.
While packing for the trip, prepare simple snacks that consist of non-perishable food items, such as canned fruit, dry cereal, and granola bars. Add bottled or canned beverages to an insulated cooling bag or container. If it will take you a while to drive up the mountain, you can satisfy your hunger or thirst without needing to pull off of the road, which could cause an accident.
